Working hours and rest periods Abstract The master's thesis deals with the topic of working hours and rest periods. These legal institutes are presented not only from the perspective of current domestic legal regulations de lege lata but also outline their historical development from the medieval period to the present, including their significant connections with both EU and international law. A significant part of the work is also dedicated to flexible forms of working hours, such as remote work, which popularity has increased in recent years, especially in the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, this alternative method represented an ideal way to minimize the risk of disease transmission while allowing both employees and employers to continue their work activities. Given that both working hours and rest periods affect nearly every economically active individual in the labour market, the master's thesis also briefly mentions related psychological impacts that can occur in an individual's life in connection with the setting of working hours and rest periods. Working hours, their duration and work schedule Abstract The diploma thesis deals with the topic of working hours and related institutes in Czech labor law in order to provide a comprehensive overview of the valid legal regulation. In addition, the work deals with the issues of breaks and rest periods, which are inseparably related to working hours. The thesis is divided into six chapters, which are subdivided into subchapters. The first chapter contains a historical excursion into the history of working hours regulation in the Czech lands from the Middle Ages to the present. I also mention the valid legal regulation of working hours at international and national level. The second chapter defines the concept of working hours, followed by a detailed description of each of the related institutes - its length, scheduling of work, work overtime, night work, on-call duty and working hours register. The following chapters discuss the organization of working hours for employees who look after children or other natural persons, pedagogical workers, workers in transportation and employees working under agreements to work outside the scope of employment. Working hours and terms related to it are permanently a topical subject, because in lifetime it affects everyone. Arrangement of working hours determines specific time periods for the employer and employee where is a performance of the work carried out on the basis of the employment relationship which they have arranged. Both sides of the contractual relationship are interested in satisfying their specific needs. The aim of this thesis is to interpret a legal regulation of working hours and institutes related to it and also make its application in practice.

The bachelor's thesis is focused on working time and rest period under Czech legislation conditions that is influenced by Community law of European Union, which is the Czech Republic a part of. The subject of the thesis is a current issue, especially due to the extensive amendment to the Labour Code, which came into effect on 1. 1. 2012. The object of this thesis is to provide a comprehensive overview of legal provisions concerning working time and rest period showing it's development and the current form of legal provisions. Additionally the comparison of the issue in six EU member states is not forgotten.

Working hours and rest period are concepts which every working person encounters almost every day. Therefore they are so important for our lives. The object of this bachelor's thesis is summarization of legal provisions concerning working hours and rest period in the Czech republic and evaluation the application of these legal regulations in practise. This bachelor's thesis should especially judge whether legal regulations are formulated in accordance with needs of labour law parties or these legal provisions should be modified, left out or completed.
